Now Getting The Hang of E-Commerce, Out Comes T-Commerce
When we think we've caught up..
Sing it with me: ♪ from the E to the M to the T ♫— I’m referring to E-Commerce, M-Commerce, and now T-Commerce. M-Commerce is commerce on mobile devices, in case you didn’t know, (you know and love the E already), and now enter Television Commerce.
Television commerce – the buying and selling of products or services using interactive television
I don’t know how to even begin to broach this topic. In a In the Newsday Business Day pullout on March 5th, 2015, there’s an article with the headline:
The first thing that came into my head was, “Ent we now start E-Commerce in Trinidad?” Granted, that T-Commerce is not a new thing, it is new to us. Just like E-Commerce is brand new to us in existence for over twenty years, I don’t see businesses falling over themselves to adopt.
There are many reasons why, the main one is the size of our market locally relative to the cost of television airtime. However, it may be affordable to the big retailers with multiple stores nationwide but I doubt the numbers will be enough to make it economical.
Remote possibility of local T-Commerce on the horizon
The reason why I say that is because that there are no more obstacles for internet shopping locally as we have a TT Dollar payment gateway. This payment gateway is the catalyst for local E-Commerce right now and you’lll be seeing many more stores being launched with it this year, and not only from Forward Multimedia.
So overall I see the possibility of local companies shortening the adoption period as they move up the learning curve. The only obstacle to local e-commerce are the companies themselves, as their Trini way of doing business obviously follows online, so any new form of commerce would still have the same business mentality behind it. TRANSLATION: Same Sh.., different… you know the rest.
Focus on E-Commerce please
My advice is one thing at a time. We have a long way to go to be on par with US online shopping sites. I’m all for adopting new trends and staying current but Trinidad and Tobago hasn’t even mastered offline shopping and now getting our feet wet with online, so let’s keep our eye on the ball.
